Beyond

Netflix is showing a new documentary called Jim and Andy: The Great Beyond. It covers the making of Man in the Moon, the biopic of Andy Kaufman. It includes unseen behind-the-scenes footage and a new interview with Jim Carrey. It’s just great. Throughout the making of the original film, Carrey lived as Andy Kaufman and Tony Clifton, the obnoxious lounge singer alter-ego, taking everything to its illogical conclusion.

While shooting Man in the Moon, Carrey is invited to a party at the Playboy Mansion. Carrey at this time only appears in character, so his team calls ahead and lets them know that Tony Clifton will be coming. Clifton shows up and everyone – Hugh Hefner included – pals it up, tolerating him being, frankly, an arse. Two hours later, he’s tearing up the dance floor when Jim Carrey walks in. Clifton is escorted out through the back door.
