Carnival

Johnny Depp surprised punters on the Pirates of the Caribbean log flume this week, appearing in person as Jack Sparrow.

He is the not the first outlaw to find a place in a carnival ride.

In 1976, the crew of the Six Million Dollar Man was filming inside the “Laff in the Dark” ride in Long Beach, California. When a crew member moved one of the mannequins, the arm came off in his hand – clearly an ex-human arm.

Elmer Curdy had just robbed a train when he was killed in a shootout with police on the Kansas border in 1911.

His body was embalmed but never claimed from the Pawhuska funeral home until a carnival owner passed through town and claimed him.

After 65 years of performing incognito, Curdy was laid to rest in his home town of Guthrie, Oklahoma in 1977.
