Trending stories last week included Patrick Stewart posting a recent photo of himself eating his first ever slice of pizza.
Pizza Hut was just too much of a trek.
In the spirit of confessional firsts, I thought I’d share the first record I ever bought (except it’s not quite that simple).
- The first record I ever had a financial stake in was Rod Stewart’s “Sailing” which my sister Jane and I gave my mum for her birthday.
- The first record I co-owned was ABBA’s “Money Money Money” (with my sister Jane, brother Tony).
- The first record I had a 50% ownership stake in was the Boomtown Rats’ “Rat Trap” (brother Tony).
- The first record I owned outright was England’s 1982 World Cup Football Team’s “This Time (We’ll Get It Right)”. Needless to say, neither for the first nor last time, they didn’t.
On sober reflection, it seems that once my pocket money allowed me to slip the moorings of my co-investors, I capsized.
Welcome some audience participation in the “first music owned” realm.
