The Big Supreme played Kingston Polytechnic one school night. We went backstage for the first time. We weren’t invited but got lost and walked in on a backing singer in a state of undress. They were very kind; they invited us back after the show and gave us free tickets to see them play the Feet First club night at the Camden Palace. The Camden Palace had been the hub of the New Romantic scene and was famous for two huge naked inflatable figures hanging from the ceiling that would swing towards each other late in the evening to great cheers as their body parts collided.
The Big Supreme suffered the triple ignominy of failing to grace the pop charts, being upstaged by a big balloon with a thingy, and being followed around by four spotty adolescent male groupies.
