My one genuine Margaret Thatcher funeral anecdote.
Many years ago, her former personal private secretary passed away at a relatively young age. She attended the funeral and afterwards approached his father to offer her condolences.
His father was rather aged and infirm, sitting in a wheelchair, well-advanced senile dementia. He was landed aristocracy with a full staff at his country estate.
Thatcher approached, shook his hand, and said “Please accept my condolences, Peter was a wonderful man.”
As she walks away, His Lordship turns to his nurse and in a loud stage whisper says, “Best cook we ever had.”
